Dear Annie: My sister, her husband broke our family after bungling home repair

Dear Annie: My only sister, “Donna,” and her husband, “Otis,” moved out of state, leaving me as the sole caregiver to our 97-year-old father. Their adult daughter “Leah” did not move with them and stayed here locally not far from my father.

My father lives near me and rents a small home in a senior community, which he enjoys, but has kept his old, empty, rundown home nearby. Although his empty home needs repair, it is in a very affluent area.

Tiger Fuel partners with nonprofit on home improvements for family in need

Employees of Charlottesville-based Tiger Fuel are used to distributing oil, propane and gasoline, but on June 29, they were distributing goodwill in the community: rebuilding ramps at an Albemarle County residence for a family with mobility challenges.

The work is part of a collaboration between the business and the Albemarle Housing Improvement Program.

That program is a nonprofit group that aims to preserve existing housing in the region through repairs and accessibility modifications.

Tiger Fuel and the program have been partnering for roughly five years and collaborate on two to five projects a year, said Mike Hulbert, operations manager at
