A recent consumer survey from Frontdoor, Inc. reveals that smart home devices are becoming more ubiquitous with home ownership, with 94 percent of homeowners considering themselves early adopters of new technology.

Police issue warning about rising home repair scams

Halton Regional Police (HRPS) have issued another warning about local home repair scams, after yet another incident within the region.

According to the report, the fraud involves contractors travelling door-to-door selling unsolicited services. These services include but are not limited to chimney repair, general masonry work, step and driveway repairs and general debris cleaning or roof repairs and waterproofing.

Police say the suspect may provide a quote with prices lower than market value and once a deal is reached, will request a large cash payment.

Police warn of home repair scam at work in Halton

Fraud involves unsolicited offers of repair work around the home, which is never completed, police say

Halton Regional Police say there’s a home repair fraud operating in the region and are issuing a warning to residents.

They describe at least one suspect in the alleged frauds as a “middle-aged white male with a heavy Irish accent”.

The frauds involve the supposed contractor travelling door-to-door selling services that are unsolicited by a consumer, police said in a news release.

Services include chimney repair, general masonry work, step and driveway repairs, general debris cleaning or roof repairs and waterproofing.

Chester County launches Whole-Home Repairs program

Where does the money for Whole-Home Repairs Come from?

Funding for the initiative came by way of the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development’s allocation of American Rescue Plan Act money. State Sen. Nikil Saval introduced the Whole-Home Repairs program in 2022 as part of the state budget.

Philadelphia and its collar counties were slated to receive a combined $40 million.

While $50 million of Whole-Home Repairs funding is stuck in limbo due to the need for “additional legislative language,” Chester County’s allocation was not impacted. The county received its entire funding package.
